The Ludvigsen Library is a world renowned and respeceted source of automotive images, research and information. The library covers a mutlitude of subjects related to the automotive world, its characters and history. Our photographs have appeared in countless books, magazines and galleries worldwide as well as in auction catalogues and on television.
We are proud to offer photographs covering the earliest motorised vehicles developed in the 1890's thru to the concept cars of the present day.
The Ludvigsen Library holds several world famous and important photographic collections including:
John Dugdale's colour images of pre-war, wartime and post war racing in both Europe and America. John's photos offer a dramatic record of Germany's pre-war engineering exploits including the Land Speed Record attempts along the newly autobahns. John Cobb's Land Speed Record attepmts on the salt lakes of Nevada are among our most treasured colour photographs.
Edward Eve's images of racing during the 1960's including coverage of Le Mans, rallying and other significant European road racing is complemented by his exclusive visits to the factories of Ferrari, including their race workshops, Maserati and Rover, as their official photographer.
Peter Keen's photos cover Le Mans, the Targa Florio and other European racing during the 1960s.
Karl Ludvigsen, the founder of the Ludvigsen Library, started taking photos to illustrate the stories he was writting for Sports Car Illustrated, as Road and Track was then known, as their European Technical Editor during the 1950's. His photographs offer both a reportage of the many events he covered firstly in Europe and later in the Americas as well as a look into the technical development and prepartion of Grand Prix, Indy, Sports Car, Can Am and Trans Am cars. His time working as both a journalist and an executive within the motor industry has allowed him unprecidented access to drivers, factories, teams, launches, clubs and personalities.
Rodolfo Mailander's collection of photographs is a truely stunning collection of images covering European Grand Prix and road racing, car launches and factories between 1945 and 1950. His unique access to the race teams, their managers, drivers and mechanics allowed him to capitalize on his formidable talents as a photographer.
Ove Nielsen complements our collection by bringing us coverage of Formula One and Sports car racing from 1974 to 1984. His photos have captured a dynamic view of the cars, their drivers and often the pits as the cars were being prepared. With Ove's photos we can offer an exciting insight into the early days of Formula One.
Stanley Rosenthall covers racing at its most powerful with photos of the legendary Can Am cars as they thundered around tracks such as Mosport and Mid Ohio. Jim Hall's innovative approach to the un-restricted class is covered extensivley alongside the exploits of the other engineers and drivers who were brave enough to grapple with these formidable racing cars.
